Vernon Bradley: Dimittit In Artes – premiere

A new film by Martin Laird about fellow Orkney-based artist Vernon Bradley will premiere on Friday the 7th of June 2024 in Stromness Community Centre, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 and can be purchased on the door. The film is entitled Dimittit In Artes, which is part of a quote from Ovid’s Metamorphoses (also used by James Joyce in Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man). The film contains strong language and adult subject matter, and is not suitable for children.

Dimittit In Artes begins with a short biography of Vernon Bradley. There follows a conversation about with the psychopomp Magnus Erlendsson, who visits Vernon in his studio (the ‘Wet Shed’). They discuss art, mortality, and the often controversial and distressing subject matter of Vernon’s paintings.
