Dimittit In Artes: Arty Farty Watch Party!

Join fellow Orkney artist Vernon Bradley and I for the online premiere of our film Dimittit In Artes, which we will be live streaming on YouTube on Friday the 28th of June 2024 at 8.30pm BST. The film lasts just over an hour. You will be able to interact with us through the live chat, and we will answer any questions you might have at the end of the film.

Dimittit In Artes takes its title from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, an epic poem concerning the act of creation which was also famously referenced by James Joyce in his experimental novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. The film is about Vernon’s work, mortality, and the artistic struggle in general, presented as a discussion between the artist and an immortal psychopomp. The film is sincere, but somewhat surreal and not 100% serious…

“Et ignotas animum dimittit in artes.”

“And he sent forth his mind to unknown arts.”

Ovid, Metamorphoses VIII

We are proud of how this film came out, and we are seeking wider distribution for it. For this reason the live stream will not be available to watch on YouTube after the fact – don’t miss it! If you happen to be a film distributor with an interest in art, get in touch!

You can read a review of the film by Eamonn Keyes on the Orkney News website, written following the premiere of the film in Stromness earlier this month.
