Through a Glass: Blackhammer is a lino-cut print from an edition of 38 inspired by Blackhammer, a house on the “dark side” of Rousay, Orkney. Part of a series inspired by the popular Scottish fiddle tune Maggie Watson’s Farewell to Blackhammer composed by Rousay resident Jim o’ Deith (Jim Craigie).
Blackhammer is situated in one of the most remote and inaccessible places on Rousay. It has had several colourful residents over the years, including the artist Sheila Scott and her husband Jim, but at the time of writing it is unoccupied and in a state of disrepair.
