Michael Prater’s Farewell to Blackhammer is a lino-cut print from an edition of 30 inspired by the popular Scottish fiddle tune Maggie Watson’s Farewell to Blackhammer composed by Rousay resident Jim o’ Deithe (Jim Craigie).

Michael Prater is one of several colourful former residents of Blackhammer. In addition to Maggie Watson, Blackhammer was also once home to the artist Sheila Scott and her husband Jim, whose large lino artworks featuring scenes from Orkney can still be seen at Kirkwall airport.
