Wednesday’s Child is a collage created for the 2024 Fair Saturday Scotland charitable open exhibition at Northlight gallery in Stromness, which has the theme of Kindness.

The original piece will be auctioned off for charity at the exhibition, which runs from the 28th to 30th of November 2024. All proceeds from the sale go to Orkney Rape and Sexual Assault Service. For a chance to purchase the original, which was constructed from antique royal souvenir memorabilia and encyclopaedia pages, make a bid in the silent auction. You can visit Northlight or email the curator Cary Welling via https://northlight.artweb.com/.

Available here is a fine art quality (giclée) print made from the original artwork.

Wednesday’s Child concerns the consequences of colonialism, and the children who inherit a terrible legacy of violence. The imagery includes the Battle of the Somme, the Battle of Beersheba in Palestine, 1917 (which led to the Balfour Declaration), and various symbols of the British Empire.
