Decay & dilapidation

Clestrain Hall, birthplace of John Rae. Distance shot of this derelict building on a clear day with a blurry foreground and slightly desaturated colour.

The landscape of Orkney is littered with rusting farm machinery, rotting boats, collapsing wartime fortifications, and derelict buildings (as well as archaeological sites). Block ships were sunk between islands in an attempt to prevent submarine access to Scapa Flow. Plastic objects wash up on the shore. Nature is grinding down all of these things.
